B.F.F. OMG! Gravy and Pteri

If you didn’t know, September is Happy Healthy Cat month.  You also might not know that I actually have a cat. Yes, the dogs get most of the internet attention but I do have a cat that came along with JoeyWaffles.

Her name is Pteri because when she was a kitten she made sounds like a Pterodactyl.  She is cuddly, loves me for some crazy reason, and meows like a psycho when she wants to be fed. She’s actually pretty smart and well, she’s a cat.

So one thing about Pteri is she loves dry food but has never been a fan of wet food…until now.  I’ll be the first to admit her diet isn’t ‘purr’fect. She can be a picky eater and she is active but still tends to be a bit of a fat cat. She experiences two of the three most common cat concerns: picky eating, weight gain, and urinary tract issues.

I learned about the Big 3 by partnering with Weruva —a luxurious, natural pet food dubbed “people food for cats” which is launched a full line of gluten, grain, and carrageenan-free cat food in honor of International Cat Day in August. It’s called B.F.F. OMG! (that stands for Best Feline Friend, Oh My Gravy), and it’s all about preventing these Big 3 Cat Concerns.

If your cat has any of these, you might want to consider changing their diet:

Is your cat picky? Picky eating is usually a problem with texture, since cats are carnivores whose tongues and teeth are perfectly evolved for meat-eating. It’s easy to see why a cat might dislike something without real shreds of meat—would you eat a steak with the texture of tapioca? Weruva’s food features these shreds of real meat right off the bone, which is why my cat took to it like a duck to water (or a cat to gravy)!

Got a fat cat? The problem is in the kibble. It’s filled with unnecessary carbs, which are almost impossible for cats to process (they don’t produce amylase, an enzyme which helps humans digest their food). Weruva’s B.F.F. OMG! has no kibble to worry about because it’s 100% real meats in their true form.

UT-why? Urinary tract issues often stem from dehydration—even if you’re giving your cat plenty of water. In the wild, cats stay hydrated through the food they eat instead of what they drink. Cats are used to ‘eating’ their water—but most wet foods don’t have nearly enough hydration to keep them satisfied. All of the products in Weruva’s B.F.F. OMG! line are over 85% hydration, which satisfies my cat’s hydration needs.

Pteri and I  love Weruva products because they are considered ‘people food for pets.’ The new line of B.F.F. OMG! cans and pouches feature land proteins like boneless and skinless white chicken breast, salmon, beef, duck, lamb and more. All recipes are grain, gluten, and carrageenan free. And if you are a BPA-free home, check out the pouches because they are are BPA-free. Check out Pteri’s reaction to trying her new food!

Health isn’t just for humans, and I’m glad I took the time to learn how to feed my Pteri properly. Even better, in the process, I found to this is her new favorite food. She especially likes Weruva’s the chicken and salmon flavor, which you can read about at You can also explore the whole B.F.F. OMG! lineup there, and find a flavor your cat will ‘paw’sitively adore, at

King Spa Review

A few weeks ago, I finally visited a place I’ve been dying to try for a few years, King Spa & Sauna in Niles, IL.  I’d been hearing about it for a while and even bought a Groupon two years ago but still hadn’t gone. To celebrate my brunette bestie Christina’s birthday, my girlfriends and I picked a spa day with dinner after.

So what happens when you take four best friends, add in a Korean Spa, and have them get naked together?  Well, here we go…

Thanksgiving, wine, friends & family time

Over the last few years Thanksgiving has become my favorite holiday. As a child I looked forward to my birthday, Christmas Eve, and trying to stay up until midnight on New Years Eve. Sure, Thanksgiving had pumpkin pie but it didn’t hold much excitement until I went away to college and it was the first holiday home. Getting to sit around the table with all my family, fighting over the last of my grandmother’s infamous stuffing, waiting for coffee to be poured, biscotti to be dipped, and stories to be told, there really was no place like home.

When Joey and I first started living together, Thanksgiving was the first holiday we hosted, really making the house into our home. Now we deep fry our turkey every year, I make my grandmother’s stuffing, and the dogs hope food falls on the floor. We make all the food at our house and then transport it to my Mom’s. This way we don’t have to do a crazy family style deep cleaning of the house or worry about setting the table and all the clean up. I get to do what I love (cook) and my Mom can clean (which she loves) and host.

my grandma’s stuffing ready to bake!

Let’s be real though. While this is all sweet and warm like a nice hot toddy, it definitely can be a stressful and crazy time trying to get everything ready. This year we did a Friendsgiving along with our normal Thursday meal so it was double the prep. Joey ended up going back to the store about three times because of things I forgot. So what got me to relax and enjoy it all?

Wine. Lot’s of wine.

I was lucky enough to have some Little Black Dress wine to share with my girlfriends and a charcuterie board. LBD sent me a complimentary Diva Red and the Pinot Grigio to try and we all loved them!! I loved the Diva Red’s flavor, with hints of cinnamon and chocolate. My girlfriends finished the Pinto Grigio in no time, loving the crisp citrus taste of tangerine, apple, melon, and lemongrass. Honestly, I loved the wine, the name, and how fun it was to drink with my girlfriends. I love how it really adds to the atmosphere of whatever we’re doing. Each bottle is $11.99, an excellent price point, especially when you’re buying 3-4 bottles.

So all in all, it was an amazing Thanksgiving with family and friends. Tons of foods, family, love, laughter, and craziness. I really wouldn’t have it any other way. Plus, Barbara and my Grandmother wearing matching pearl outfits?

Four Legged Fall Fashion w/Hotel Doggy

Today was a perfect fall day: crisp, dry, and full of sunshine. We were up early and headed over to Hoosier Mama Pie Co. and Dollop Coffee for breakfast. They have the most amazing hand pies so I grabbed a few of the spinach and sausage ones. Joey opted for an amazing sausage, Gouda, and egg biscuit. Well, I can vouch the biscuit was amazing since I don’t like Gouda. We grabbed some Nutella Coffee and headed back home to the pups.

Since my fur babies are small, they definitely need some kind of clothing as the weather gets colder. Luckily this was the perfect chance to try out the gorgeous jackets and sweaters sent over from  HotelDoggy, an amazing dog apparel company from Canada. They are finally here in the US at PetCo (NY area), TJ Maxx, Marshall’s and HomeGoods. Prices range from $14.99-$29.99.

Penelope (XS) and Barbara (XXS)

My two little baby girls look adorable in these dark pink plaid sherpa jackets. They are great because they close by velcro and can work with their leash/harness/ and any winter weight gain lol (but really not funny cause dog obesity is no joke).

Dante (S)

Dante has always needed sweaters and jackets but is really hard to find clothes for. He is thin with a large rib cage and long long legs so what fits the ribs is usually huge everywhere else. This sweater fit perfect and he looks so handsome. He is such a sweetie and so patient and gentle.

Uptown, downtown, any town: wherever you venture, you pup will be the top dog in the neighborhood. (Hotel Doggy)

I think when you’re a pet parent, especially of small dogs, people love to make fun of and mock clothing. People forget some dogs really need it and yes, I know Babs doesn’t need a bikini but hey, I am allowed to have a little fun. That’s what makes Hotel Doggy so great. They get it and can laugh at themselves and provide an amazing product.

Next up for the crew, I am eyeing some of the HotelDoggy #adoptdontshop sweaters and their shiny parkas. I also saw some great holiday pajamas the fur babies would look great in. Holiday cards need a great photo and this year, I think we will send one out to all our friends and family.

Now remember everyone, these opinions are my own. I was sent these amazing clothes at no charge but I always keep it real, so you’re getting my honest review.

Back to school, to prove to Daddy I’m not a dog that drools (or something like that)

It’s that time for back to school which pretty much just means JoeyWaffles schedule switches back to the night shift and I have 80% of the dog responsibilities. Especially with three dogs, a schedule change means finding ways to keep the pups happy and relaxed.

PetMatrix has released a few helpful tips and tricks for getting pups prepped for back to school:

  • Morning walks – taking your dog for a morning walk is a great way to share some quality time and tire your pup out, before leaving for the day.
  • Plan fun weekend activities – instead of heading to the movies on the weekend, opt for a family park outing with your pup; playing together on the weekends will make up for lost time during the week. I am definitely planning on doing this more and enjoying leash training, exercise, and the gorgeous weather.
  • Create background noise – leaving a television or radio on low volume can provide a sense of comfort to dogs not used to being in a quiet house all day. I do this whenever I leave and switch between classical, country, and easy listening.
  • Keep your pet entertained chewing is an enjoyable and mentally stimulating activity that helps to prevent boredom; instead of turning to rawhide to keep pets occupied, SmartBones offers a healthy alternative, and will help entertain furry family members once kids are back in the classroom. Every morning when I leave, I give each dog a smart bone because it’s their favorite treat and I feel safe knowing they won’t choke or have digestion issues. Plus, they are so bust being excited, they forget about me!

Many veterinarians raise concerns about rawhide chews due to the health risks, including potential choking and digestion problems in dogs. PetMatrix’s SmartBones are made up of a wholesome vegetable outside with real chicken inside – making them 100 percent rawhide-free, low fat, highly digestible and delicious.

Seriously the health benefits are so important and knowing I am giving the pups healthy, safe, and delicious treats makes me happy.

I was holding a SmartBone up as I took this pic and you can see they are excited and ready to go! If you haven’t tried them yet, get on it!

What do you do when your schedule changes with your pets?

summertime happiness

Back from a two Florida vacation and ready to get back to blogging. Usually I stress about what to write, if there’s a theme, if it’s too long, blah blah blah. Finally, I realized I just need to write! So here we go 🙂 If there’s anything you want to hear about, drop me a line, leave me a comment, and your wish is my command!
On to summer…
Here are some of my favorite things this summer that I must rave about.
1. Starbucks Iced Black Coffee- I actually LOVE this. I’ve gone off processed sugar and so bye bye caramel macciatos and hello black coffee. I first thought it was going to be terrible but t my surprise, I actually like it. Add a little stevia from Trader Joe’s and I LOVE it. The cold brew is too metallic tasting for me but a Venti Iced Black coffee is quite satisfying.
2. Benefit’s Goof Proof eyebrow pencil is AMAZING. If you want to have on point eyebrows but don’t have a lot of time or skill, this is the product for you. I had a free sample from Ulta before it came out and now I am addicted! I don’t do any other makeup 99% of the time besides my brows and this makes them look perfect in minimal time.
3. Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Sea Salt Spray- I have used this products for a few years and I need to rave about it every year. I literally just wash my hair and spray this in and my hair looks amazing. I spritz it on my hair wet or dry, depending on the morning. If you want a great smelling, great texture beachy feeling, this is the product for you!
4. Cucumbers and lemons- Basically I’m using lemon juice for almost all my meals! It adds such a flavor and it mixed perfect with garlic, which I use on everything. It has so many great health benefits and it’s delicious!! Also, cucumber is refreshing in water, as a salad, or an add on to any salad. It’s crisp texture and taste make it a staple plus it’s inexpensive.
What are you enjoying this summer? What should I be trying/using/doing that I may not be?
